What is reiki?
Some people liken Reiki to a spiritual practice, like meditation, yoga, or tai chi, because there is a limit to our understanding of how it really works. However, Reiki is not connected to any form of religion, it is a gift that we are all born with and must learn to reconnect with. Many studies have found that various spiritual practices help us connect with unseen resources, the innermost core of our being that cannot be measured but which is vital to our well-being. You can find out more about reiki here.

What can reiki help with?
Most people seek energy treatments to alleviate pain in the body. Pain can sometimes be experienced in the body due to blockages in the body's natural flow of energy. Reiki works to subtly move and release the blockages that cause pain or illness within the body while amplifying one's ability to heal naturally. Reiki is a nurturing way to help someone detoxify and renew from a range of traumas to the system, including: stress, injury, environmental toxins and use of pharmaceuticals. It has become a recognised and effective alternative medicine.

Hands-on healing can help in many situations including:

-
Pain relief
-
Stress release
-
Detoxification
-
Sleep problems
-
Anxiety and calming of the mind
-
Excellent for babies and children
-
Mindfulness and the release of negative habits

What happens at a reiki consultation?
A treatment time can range from 30 minutes up to two hours, depending on your personal preference and needs. The treatment takes place in a private treatment room, fully clothed while laying on a massage table. The Reiki practitioner places their hands on the area to be treated (with permission of course) in addition to treating the head and various parts of the body as needed. During a treatment the patient often notices sensations where the hands are placed such as heat or subtle movements in the body. Afterwards, the patient may notice that areas of the body that previously felt tight or restricted become more open and comfortable. Depending on its severity, pain usually diminishes or can often disappear. It is important to drink plenty of water after the treatment to help flush toxins that may have been released. Every ‘body’ is different, so the number of treatments necessary varies from person to person depending on the afflictions. Chronic cases will take longer – the pain did not suddenly appear and it won’t suddenly disappear without a bit of effort.

Where is the evidence for Reiki?
There is a loads of great, scientific research for reiki. I recommend the following websites to get you started.
